President Anastasiades on Tuesday was officially welcomed with all appropriate honours by German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the German capital, at noon.
The performance of the National Anthems of the two countries followed, and then the President of the Republic and the German Chancellor reviewed a military guard.
The President and the Chancellor then had a working lunch where present, on the part of Cyprus, were also Minister of Finance Haris Georgiades, Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides and Ambassador of Cyprus to Germany Minas Hadjimichael.
They are now giving a press conference at the Chancery, as issues expected to have come under discussion include the ongoing UN-led negotiations for a settlement to the Cyprus problem, the role of the EU in the fresh round of talks and Confidence Building Measures.
The possibility of enhancing the level of economic cooperation between the two countries was also expected to be high on the agenda together with the crisis in Ukraine.
More specifically, the EU sanctions imposed on Russia and the effects these could have on a small economy like Cyprus and other Mediterranean EU states heavily dependent on tourism.
