A man who went snail collecting in an area close to Pergamos got a nasty surprise on Thursday afternoon after soldiers of the Turkish occupation forces took his car.
According to Oroklini police, the 22-year-old Pyla resident had gone snail collecting at around 4pm in fields close to the buffer zone but was stunned to see Turkish soldiers surrounding his vehicle when he went to return to his car. Unsure what to do, the man turned around and walked to a nearby UN guard post to explain what had happened.
He was then escorted by UN officers back to his car where he found more Turkish soldiers and Turkish Cypriot police who went on to explain that the car was parked on their side of the buffer zone.
UN patrol officers then reportedly handed over the man’s keys to the Turkish Cypriot police who went on to confiscate the car.
Police in Oroklini are investigating the incident.
