At the end of last month, Diane Doyle completed a Tandem Skydive at Skydive Cyprus at the Kingsfield Airfield in Dhekelia in order to raise funds for much needed repairs to the Akrotiri Saddle Club.
Diane, who works for the Joint Movement Squadron in RAF Akrotiri as an Administration Clerk, is a regular rider and member of ASC and she was keen to raise money to help.
The club, which has been operating for more than half a century, was in dire need of some maintenance work after funding became tighter and the conditions of fencing, stabling/shelters and water troughs deteriorated and became in desperate need of repair.
In 2010, ASC was near closure, however under new management and with new members and volunteers increasing the club is now running at full strength with 25 horses and up to 60 riding members and many more social members.
Diane revealed that she chose the jump due to her fear of heights and said she “was extremely nervous” before leaping out of the plane.
However, after finally putting her feet firmly back on the ground she described it as “a truly exhilarating experience” and through sponsorship, she raised in excess of €900 for the ASC.
Diane and the saddle club would like to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone who sponsored her and give special thanks to Sqn Ldr Marcus Fountain who videoed the jump, Chas at Skydive Cyprus who made the jump possible and Mark Humphries at BFBS Radio for publicising the event.
