NICOSIA- President Nicos Anastasiades on Monday said his lunch meeting with former leader of the Turkish Cypriot community Mehmet Ali Talat had been constructive and useful.
Speaking after the meeting, Anastasiades said his briefings with Talat did not replace official contacts with current Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu but helped create a better climate for them.
Anastasiades also said he hoped for a solution to the Cyprus Problem as soon as possible and that this would be one that did not ignore the rights of either the Greek Cypriot or Turkish Cypriot communities.
Also speaking after the meeting Talat said it had been “fruitful” adding he had put forward the idea for Turkish to be taught in Greek Cypriot schools and Greek at Turkish Cypriot schools as a way of bringing the two communities closer together.
He noted that a television station in the occupied areas had undertaken the transmission of Greek-language lessons.
