NICOSIA –A 63-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fraud scam involving used cars being sold as new. The investigation was launched following a complaint from the Ministry of Communications in February.
According to the police, the suspect owns a car import company that brings vehicles to Cyprus from Britain.
Authorities are simultaneously probing claims that government officials falsified used vehicle documentation in order for them to be sold off again as new. An arrest warrant has also been issued for a 54-year-old man in connection with the case. Investigators believe that some 1,500 used cars were sold as new in Cyprus as part of the scam.
