LARNACA - A 27-year-old Dutch woman was sentenced on Thursday to 12 years in prison after having been found guilty in a plot to smuggle 13 kg of cannabis into Cyprus.
The Larnaca Assizes heard that on March 11, 2014 Alexandra Mountrons Damleys was arrested at Larnaca Airport after customs officials discovered 13 kg of cannabis in her luggage.
The woman’s defence lawyer stated his client agreed to work as a drug mule in exchange for €7,000. She claimed she was paid a €1,000 advance from an unidentified Dutch man before picking up the narcotics in Bucharest and travelling to Cyprus.
The defence has put forward a request for Damleys to serve her sentence in a Dutch prison.
