Former directors and deputy directors of the Interior Ministry from now on need to secure special permission from minister Socrates Hasikos before entering ministry offices or departments.
According to a circular sent to all civil servants working in his ministry, Hasikos said that the decision was made after former executive staff had been reportedly coming and going at various ministry offices and departments in order to promote the private interests of companies, friends or their own personal interests. According to his announcement, this phenomenon is not in the best interest of the state as it discriminates against citizens and provides favourable treatment to the few. The minister has called on civil servants to implement a strict code of conduct and the circular, while he warned that if the phenomenon is not eliminated, additional measures will have to be imposed.
