FAMAGUSTA – A holiday hangover campaign launched on Friday is targeting young people who visit Ayia Napa this summer.
The British High Commission initiative hopes to encourage tourists to have a good time but act responsibly.
Vice Consul Christina Smith said Consular staff in Nicosia met with tour operators prior to the start of the season to explain the campaign and the support that can be provided to British tourists who find themselves in distress whilst on holiday on the island.
“We continue to work closely with the municipality and with other partners to get our messaging through to holiday makers as year we see the tragic consequences of young people who drink excessively whilst on holiday,” said Smith. “We want young people to come to the island and have a great time, the campaign is designed to try and make them more aware”.
Each year, the consular section in Nicosia deals with a number of cases where young people drink heavily and get involved in fights or have accidents many resulting in tragic consequences whilst on holiday. The campaign, through a series of posters and wrist bands promotes the Emergency 112 number and stresses the importance of knowing the consequences of the actions.
