NICOSIA - The Cyprus issue, energy matters and the financial crisis were on the agenda of a meeting between Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Erato Kozakou Markoullis and her Swiss counterpart Didier Burkhalter, with whom she signed an agreement for the import and repatriation of cultural goods.

According to a press release, in the context of a working visit to Bern, Markoullis attended a working lunch with Burkhalter, followed by talks, during which the delegations discussed bilateral relations between Cyprus and Switzerland, developments in the Cyprus problem, the efforts of the Republic of Cyprus to exploit hydrocarbons in its exclusive economic zone, the crisis in the Eurozone, and developments in the Southern Neighbourhood.

They also discussed relations between the EU and Switzerland, and reaffirmed the excellent level of bilateral relations between Cyprus and Switzerland, as well as the latter`s support to a viable and functional solution in Cyprus, divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.

After the talks, the two Ministers signed an agreement for the import and repatriation of cultural goods, which is the product of talks between Cyprus and Switzerland since 2006 and covers Cypriot and Swiss antiquities dated from prehistoric times until 1500AD.

Cyprus is the sixth country with which Switzerland has signed such an agreement, the other five being Greece, Italy, Peru, Egypt and Colombia.
