LONDON - Congratulations have been coming in from abroad for president-elect Nicos Anastasiades.
British Prime Minister David Cameron. telephoned Anastasiadis Sunday night, immediately after the press conference he gave in Greek and foreign media.
Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras offered his congratulations as did the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy.
UK Foreign Secretary William Hague said he looked forward to working with him
“I congratulate Nicos Anastasiades on his election as President of the Republic of Cyprus. The UK and Cyprus share a long history and enjoy a deep-rooted bilateral relationship that is underpinned by our EU and Commonwealth links. I look forward to working with Mr Anastasiades and his government, and strengthening even further the close ties that bind our two countries,” he said.
