NICOSIA - More than six warehouses have been filled with food, medicines and other supplies for needy families following last night’s CyprusAid concert in Nicosia.
One of the organisers, Maria Papapetrou, told CNA the response "surpassed all limits of emotion," adding that all those who attended gave not only material goods but love and solidarity to those in need.
Now that the items have been collected the next major effort is for volunteers to sort and deliver aid to social groceries, organised groups who supported the initiative, and individuals in need.
"They filled six huge warehouses with food, relief items and clothing," said Papapetrou.
Cyprus Aid brought together a large number of well-known artists – both Greek and Cypriot - in Nicosia’s Constanza Moat for the concert.
Admission was free and the public were invited to provide food and other relief items to be distributed to needy.
Apart from the artists who participated gratis, significant support and contribution was given by a number of agencies, municipalities, semi-governmental organisations, corporations and individuals.
