PAPHOS – A 57 year old Cypriot man was remanded in police custody for eight days on Monday on suspicion of having stabbed his 54 year old common law wife in a dispute over cash.
The alleged attack occurred in the Paphos village of Trachypedoula on Easter Sunday with the two having allegedly quarreled over €180.
Paphos district court was told that the suspect says the stabbing was accidental. He says the woman had the knife in her hand and she was injured during a row.
Paphos police said that the victim claims to have lent the suspect €180 and they had argued about the money.
She was found at her home by a neighbor who heard the row. She had been stabbed near the throat and in her stomach. She is in hospital in serious condition.
The man was arrested on the spot. A knife believed to be the weapon used, was also retrieved.
