NICOSIA - The refusal by former Presdient Demetris Christofias to answer questions at the inquiry into the Cyprus economic meltdown is to be referred to the Attorney General.
Committee President George Pikis called the former presdient's action "inexcusable and degrading to institutions and the functioning rule of law"
He Axdded thatChristofias had been calling for "essentially special treatment" by telling the committe '"I am not any witness."
Earlier Christgofias walked out of the proceedings after refusing to answer questions.
Instead he wanted to read a multi-page statement he had prepared.
He was warned by the three-person panel that he would be in violation of the law if he left and they told him he should answer questions before reading his statement.
This he refused to do and he left arranging a press conference so he could read his statement there.
