NICOSIA Overseas Cypriots want Nicosia to strengthen relations with the powerful Jewish lobby, especially now that Cyprus has discovered natural gas deposits in its exclusive economic zone.
“At least 80 MPs in the UK Parliament are Jewish and they have been supporting Cyprus and its struggle over the Cyprus problem,” newly-elected Pomak president Andreas Papaevripides told a press conference yesterday to end their two-day gathering.
“We have much to gain if we keep developing our ties with the Jewish lobby which is the second biggest worldwide,” he added.
The annual meeting at the International Conference Centre in Nicosia was organised by Pomak-Pseka and youth branch Nepomak.
The delegates were briefed on developments in the Cyprus problem, economic affairs, energy issues and other matters of interest.
Both Papaevripides as well as Pseka leader Philip Christopher underlined the importance of an American company- Noble Energy- carrying out exploratory drilling offshore Cyprus.
