NICOSIA – University of Cyprus welcomed today the first students of its newly established Medical School. A vision of many years became a reality with many efforts described the opening of the Medical School at the University of Cyprus, Rector Constantinos Christofides
Speaking at a welcome event of the 37 medical students, Christofides said that on October 3 in the presence of the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades some major announcements will be made about the Medical School, which "will put it into a new era".
Welcoming the first medical students, the Rector thanked everyone who helped in the establishment of the Medical School and urged students to honour it.
Christofides said the ambition of the University of Cyprus, which next year celebrates 25 fruitful years of life, is before 2020 to be among the 200 best universities in the world.
With the establishment of the Medical School, he noted, this will be achieved even faster because our country has the right to have a university among the 200 best in the world.
He praised the University of Cyprus for its good infrastructure, human and logistical, and said that at the beginning of 2015 the new library will operate.
In their address Dean of the Medical School Andreas Adam and the Assistant Dean Zacharias Zachariou welcoming the students expressed confidence that they will honor the School and Cyprus will be proud of its first doctors who studied in the country.
Dean Andreas Adam said the Medical School will improve the care of patients in Cyprus, will elevate the level of postgraduate medical education and will bring great economic benefits to the island.
