Nicosia - - Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides departs Sunday for Egypt where he will hold contacts with the Egyptian government.
Kasoulides told the press that he will convey a message from the Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades to Egypt’s interim president and will attempt to restore contacts between High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton and the Egyptian authorities.
The Foreign Minister stressed that the visit is of vital importance in terms of Cyprus’ interests.
Kasoulides said Egypt is a key factor in Cyprus regional policy, adding that there are a number of issues, especially in the field of energy, which require an understanding between the two countries.

Replying to a question, the Foreign Minister said that “I will convey a message from the President of the Republic to the interim president of Egypt”.
Asked whether he will convey a message from EU’s High Representative, Kasoulides noted that as a Foreign Minister of a European country “my effort will be to restore contacts between Mrs Ashton and the Egyptian authorities in order for her to contribute to the efforts for democratization”.
The Foreign Minister said that he will have meetings with the government of Egypt, the Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria, the religious leader of the Muslims of Al –Aqsa Mosque and the Coptic Patriarch.
He will return to Cyprus on Tuesday.
