NICOSIA - House President Yiannakis Omirou and visiting Knesset Speaker Yuli Yoel Edelstein signed on Monday a protocol of cooperation.
Edelstein said: "It (the protocol) is a testament to the joint efforts and close cooperation between our countries. It will help guide and further strengthen the connection, trust and friendship between Cyprus and Israel in the years to come."
He added: "As true friends, Cyprus and Israel see eye-to-eye and support each other on a wide range of issues including security, regional cooperation, equality and democracy. We place an emphasis on improving the lives of our countrymen and neighbours”.
Cyprus is the only EU country that shares a maritime border with Israel and one of our top trade partners, the Israeli official also said.
Omirou described the talks as friendly and productive, covering various issues on which they shared views such as the necessity for principles of international law to prevail in the region.
As well as conditions of security, stability, cooperation and peace to be established.
He also said that they exchanged views on issues such as the exploitation of energy resources in the exclusive economic zones of the two countries.
