NICOSIA - Attorney General Petros Clerides submitted on Friday his resignation before President Nicos Anastasiades who has accepted it.
An official announcement also said that Clerides intends to step down by September 15 and that the President has decided to appoint Costas Clerides, a judge of the Supreme Court, as the new Attorney General. He will take over on Septermber 16.
The announcement added that in a telephone conversation with the outgoing Attorney General, the President thanked him for his services to the legal affairs of Cyprus during the past 40 years. Clerides was due to retire in October.
